A passkey lets you sign in with your face, fingerprint or device PIN instead of typing a password. It’s stored on your device (and synced through iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager), can’t be phished, and there’s nothing to remember.

Add a passkey

You need to be signed in first, by whichever method you normally use.
  • Website: open Account, find Passkeys and tap Add. Your browser asks you to confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or your device PIN.
  • iPhone app: Account → Security → Passkeys → Add passkey.
  • Android app: Account → Security → Passkeys → Add passkey.
You can add more than one, for example one on your phone and one on your laptop, and name each so you know which is which.

Sign in with it

On the sign-in screen, tap Sign in with a passkey and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your screen lock. On a computer you can also use your phone: scan the QR code the browser shows.

Remove a passkey

Same place you added it. Remove any you no longer use, for example after selling a device. Removing a passkey doesn’t affect your other sign-in methods.

Good to know

  • Passkeys are an extra way in, not a replacement. Your Google, Apple or email sign-in keeps working.
  • The passkey option is hidden on browsers and devices that don’t support it. Try a current version of Safari, Chrome or Edge.
