Every plan on Roamly lists the supported network speeds — typically 3G/4G/5G or 4G/LTE. But the actual speed you get on the ground depends on a few factors beyond the plan itself.

How to check

Each plan on Roamly shows the supported speeds in the plan details. Check this before purchasing so you know what to expect. You can also view the specific carriers and network types on each country’s page.

What affects speed?

  • Network coverage — Speeds depend on the local carrier’s infrastructure. Major cities usually have strong 4G/5G coverage, while rural areas may fall back to 3G.
  • Network congestion — During peak times or in busy tourist areas, speeds may be slower than usual.
  • Device capability — Your phone needs to support 5G to use 5G speeds. Older phones may be limited to 4G or 3G.

Is 5G guaranteed?

No. Even if a plan lists 5G, actual availability depends on the local carrier’s 5G rollout at your specific location. Your phone will always fall back to the fastest available network (4G, then 3G) if 5G isn’t available in your area.

Typical speeds

Network Typical speed 5G Up to 100+ Mbps (where available) 4G / LTE 10–50 Mbps (most common) 3G 1–5 Mbps (rural or congested areas) These speeds are more than enough for messaging, social media, maps, video calls, and streaming. If you’re experiencing speeds well below these ranges, see our slow speeds troubleshooting guide.
