# My eSIM won't install

> Locked phone, no Wi-Fi, unsupported device, already installed elsewhere, and the error each one shows.

Installation problems come down to a short list of causes. Find the message or symptom that matches yours.

## Nothing happens when I tap Install

One-touch install opens your phone's own eSIM setup. If nothing opens:

* **You're on a computer.** The install button only works on the phone itself. Show the QR code on the computer and scan it with the phone instead: [iPhone](/installing/iphone/qr-code-or-manual) · [Android](/installing/android/qr-code-or-manual).
* **Your Android phone doesn't support one-touch setup.** A few models don't. Use **Install on another device** in the app (or **Manual setup** on the website) and follow [the manual steps](/installing/android/qr-code-or-manual).
* **The phone doesn't support eSIM at all.** See [Does my phone support eSIM?](/getting-started/does-my-phone-support-esim)

## "This code is no longer valid", "already installed" or "profile already downloaded"

The eSIM is already on a phone. Each eSIM can only be installed once. If that phone is the one in your hand and you deleted the eSIM from it, you can re-add it. If it's a different phone, the eSIM has to stay there. See [I deleted my eSIM, or installed it on the wrong phone](/troubleshooting/before-you-go/deleted-or-wrong-phone).

## "Unable to complete", "couldn't download eSIM" or it just spins

The download needs a steady internet connection and a few seconds of patience.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check you're online">
    Join Wi-Fi, or make sure your normal SIM's mobile data is working. Open a web page to be sure.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Try again after a restart">
    Restart the phone and tap Install again. This clears a surprising number of one-off failures.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update your phone">
    Older iOS and Android versions have eSIM bugs that later updates fixed. Install any pending update, then try again.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Try the other method">
    If one-touch setup keeps failing, scan the QR code or enter the code manually: [iPhone](/installing/iphone/qr-code-or-manual) · [Android](/installing/android/qr-code-or-manual).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## "Add eSIM" isn't in my settings, or it says my carrier doesn't allow it

Your phone is most likely **carrier-locked**. A locked phone can't use another provider's eSIM: some refuse to install it, others install it and then never connect. If the phone came on a plan, ask your carrier to unlock it; in Australia this is free once the plan's conditions are met. If the phone is unlocked and the option still isn't there, the model may not support eSIM. See [Does my phone support eSIM?](/getting-started/does-my-phone-support-esim)

## It installed, but shows "No Service"

That's normal before your trip. See [My eSIM says "No Service" and I haven't left yet](/troubleshooting/before-you-go/no-service-before-you-leave).
