# Install with a QR code or manual setup

> Scan from another screen, or paste the activation code by hand. Includes the Pixel and Samsung menu paths.

Use this when the eSIM is going on a different phone than the one you're signed in on — a family member's phone, or a phone you're setting up from your computer — or when one-touch setup didn't work on your phone. If you're installing on the phone in your hand, [the app](/installing/android/app) or [Add to Android on the website](/installing/android/website) is quicker.

  Whichever phone scans the code is the phone the eSIM lives on, permanently. Make sure it's the right one before you scan.

## Show the QR code

The code has to be on a *different* screen from the phone you're installing on: a computer, a tablet, or another phone.

* **Website:** sign in at [onroamly.com/my-esims](https://onroamly.com/my-esims), open the eSIM and tap **Scan QR code**.
* **Roamly app:** open the plan and tap **Install on another device**.

## Scan it

Menus differ a little by brand. The two most common paths:

        Name the SIM something like *Roamly*. Then, on the SIMs screen, tap the Roamly SIM and make sure **Use this SIM** is off until you land.

        Go to **Settings → Connections → SIM manager** and tap **Add eSIM**.

        Choose **Scan QR code**, point the camera at the code on the other screen, then tap **Add**.

        Name the SIM something like *Roamly*. Back in SIM manager, switch the Roamly SIM off until you land.

## Manual setup (no camera, or the code won't scan)

You'll need the activation code from the same place as the QR code. It's one line that starts with `LPA:1$`.

* **Website:** open the eSIM, tap **Manual setup** and copy the **LPA string**.
* **Roamly app:** open the plan, go to **More → Technical → Manual activation** and copy the code.

    Start the **Add eSIM** steps above, and on the scan screen look for **Enter it manually**, **Enter activation code** or **Need help?** — the wording varies by phone, and on some it only appears after you skip the scan.

    Most phones have a single field: paste the whole `LPA:1$…` line. If your phone asks for an SM-DP+ address and an activation code separately, the address is the part between the first and second `$` and the code is everything after the second `$`.

    Tap **Download**, name the SIM, and keep it switched off until you land.

## Before you fly

Turn off Roaming on your normal SIM while you're still at home: **Settings → Network & internet → SIMs**, tap your normal SIM, **Roaming** off (Samsung: Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Data roaming). That's what stops your home carrier charging you overseas. When you land, follow [Just landed? How to activate your eSIM](/installing/when-you-land).

## Something not working?

* Android says the code is invalid or the profile is already installed? The eSIM is probably on another phone. See [I deleted my eSIM, or installed it on the wrong phone](/troubleshooting/before-you-go/deleted-or-wrong-phone).
